We almost lost our way from the train station to this place. The weather was not too good as it was raining and cloudy. When we saw a sandwich shop near by, we quickly went inside for some shelter. Fortunately the rain got smaller when we were about to finish our lunch. As the skies cleared we then began to explore this beautiful medieval old town. It seemed very quite and peaceful. The environment was clean and well preserved. Most of the shophouses are typical timbered houses. They come in various colors and the design is certainly one of a kind. We could see a lot of souvenir shops along the way. They are mostly handmade. Rothenburg ob der Tauber is also home to the German Christmas Museum. There were many Christmas shops where you can shop for Christmas decorations and experience the Christmas atmosphere all year long.

Plonlein (little square) with Sieber Tower and Kobolzeller Tower. Plonlein is one of the most famous places in Rothenburg ober der Tauber.

The sky was so blue and the weather was still warm. We felt very lucky to be able to enjoy such beautiful weather. But when the night was approaching, the sky got cloudy and it started to rain soon after that. And we were a bit worried about next day. It was the Swiss National Day and we could see the fireworks from our window at 12am on that night. The next day was very cloudy and we knew we wouldn’t be able to trek up. Thus we took a cable car from Gimmelwald to Schilthorn that cost us CHF82.60 each. The weather was so cold and the rain was getting heavier. We could hardly see the peaks, and only for a few minutes. We decided to have our lunch at The Piz Gloria Revolving Restaurant.

We hope that one day we could go back again with a nice weather.

Everyone says this place is a must visit. After googling the term Cinque Terre, I found this place to be extremely attractive when I saw the beautiful pictures.

Cinque Terre is part of the UNESCO World Heritage List. It is composed of 5 small villages: Monterosso, Vernazza, Manarola, Corniglia, Riomaggiore. Getting to Cinque Terre was easy by train. We were staying in Riomaggiore during our visit in CT. However, we did not have much time to enjoy this village because we were quite late by the time we arrived.

I know I will return to this place again…

We started our journey from Riomaggiore to Monterosso. The trail which links all the villages is about 9km long and requires 5 hours walk. But we took more than 8 hours to complete it (why? because we stop along the way to take photos)! We found ourselves really exhausted after the hike. The remainder of our trip after CT was really killing our knee joint. However, this trip to CT was certainly worth it and will never be a regret.

Pros: Every single thing about this hotel is 5-stars. Initially we thought it\’d be bad because of the relatively low price, but boy were we pleasantly surprised. Great staff (helpdesk, kitchen & cleaners), great service, great rooms, great breakfast (there were lots to eat, including bacon, sausage, fried eggs, coffee machine, juice machine). Lobby was spacious. The best we’ve come across so far!

Rates: CZK450 per bed (ard €18.50)
Pros: So far 1 of the best place we stayed in our 2-mth Europe trip. Very quiet, clean & tidy (despite shared bathrooms). Kitchen right in front of the rooms. Friendly & helpful staff. Breakfast is good. Free wi-fi in rooms. 10-15 mins walk to town.

3. Pal’s Hostel, Budapest

Rates: €15.00 per bed

Pros: Room was so big, like a studio apartment (can fit upto 6ppl) even though we only booked for 2, with kitchen and fridge, and free high-speed Internet with wi-fi. Location is fantastic, right next to the St. Stephan’s Basilica, and 5mins from the Danube river, restaurants and cafes right next door. View from our balcony was excellent (especially at night). Host & hostess were really friendly. Free use of washing machine!

Cons: Church bell starts ringing every hr after 6am (it’s loud) haha!

4. Tourist Hotel Lucerne, Lucerne, Switzerland

Rates: CHF56.00 per bed (ard €46)

Pros: Free wi-fi. Right next to the river, near town and tower. Good staff.

Cons: Fairly far from the train station. And you will need to pay additional city tax.

5. Dei Cavalieri B&B, Pisa, Italy

Rates: €30.00 per bed

Pros: Good location, very clean environment and friendly staff. ! Free wi-fi, breakfast plentiful. Friendly and helpful staff.

Cons: Just a little hard to find. The ‘no. 4′ was too small to see. It’s right next to the bank (shares same building), not ‘near’.
